How to Avoid Link Mistakes that Can Hurt Your Website

May 31st, 2010 publisher No comments

Building links is a critical aspect of any online campaign. The highest quality backlinks will serve you very well to gain the best position on page one of search engines. Lacking in quality, relevant backlinks to your site will only result in little traffic from the engines. Many online marketers make costly mistakes while trying to get as many backlinks as possible. Sometimes the consequences are high, even though the mistakes seem trivial. If you have any desire to have a great relationship with the search engines, then you’ll want to be aware of and avoid the following mistakes. A fantastic new program can be seen at this Link Building Campaign web page

Failing to check for the “no follow” tag is something a lot of marketers forget about, or don’t know. The “no-follow” attribute tells search engine spiders to avoid following that link, but to do it in a special manner. If you post your link on a page where the no-follow tag is used, your link will not pass-on the power from that page to your site. It’s a good idea to check before posting, and it doesn’t matter what kind of link it is.

You can find link exchanges that advertise for link building. But you need to be careful to avoid being scammed. Using a link exchange can still work for you, and they are white hat SEO practice. But you’ll find that not every one of them will be worth the trouble. If it’s a scam, you will pay them for a link. Then either they take it down a little later, or it’s posted somewhere with a no-follow link attribute. So do check that your links are still in place, and always try to find a reputable link dealer. Another mistake webmasters make but don’t realize is linking to good websites that turn out to be bad later on. This is not so unusual because all a site has to do is publish content considered objectionable by the search engines. This is why it’s a good idea to check the destination of your outgoing links when doing broken link checks.

It’s smart to pay attention to these matters because your backlinks are so critical to your rankings. All diligent marketers keep a close eye on these issues to prevent serious problems. Try to remember what you’ve learned here today, and your backlinks are assured to be of the highest quality and relevance. Patience and virtue will win for you, so take it easy and you’ll have excellent results. Need a way to earn massive amounts online? Find out how you can too at this Link Building Tips website

Google’s May 2010 Update – A Shot of “Caffeine” to Keep It Moving Fast or Spam Filter?

May 31st, 2010 publisher No comments

There is some stirring around as to what the May updates were to Google’s search results index. A lot of websites are seeing 5-20% declines in traffic. We monitor analytics for dozens of websites as an SEO Company, and for the most part, most of our sites have seen decreases in traffic in this range. What did Google update to kill that much traffic across the board?

We looked around for blog posts and updates from others in the SEO field to compare notes, and there are a lot of differing opinions. We found this video over at SEOmoz that summed up what we anticipated the reason could be. Much like they say in the video, we have been very fortunate to improve our rankings through all of Google’s updates, and this was the first time we have ever seen a decrease. We checked search results rankings and our keyword rankings for competitive keywords were still intact. We did notice that the number of indexed pages was down, and the number of keywords bringing in traffic had decreased.

The video points out that this could be a trimming of Google’s index to keep the “caffeine” update fast. This could cause less pages from each site to be indexed, hurting the long-tail keyword phrase traffic. After taking a second look at our own analytics, we would agree that this is the most likely cause of lost traffic through the May update.  But what was the reason? Most algorithmic updates tend to do one of two things – increase the relevance of the search results or decrease the amount of spam in the index.

The more we thought about this, the more sense it made. Splogs (or spam blogs) load up on tons of irrelevant content to capture a lot of long-tail, obscure search queries to get traffic for adsense websites and other low quality websites. In (what we think could be) an alleged attempt to battle splogs in the search results, Google may have tweaked the way deeper pages are indexed and ranked, thus reducing the amount of overall indexed pages in the search results. This could clean up the index, and increase the speed of the search results. It seems that the real reason may have been to battle splogs and index spam, not really to focus on the speed of the search results. The increase in speed due to the smaller index size could have simply been a positive effect of the update.

Content creation and syndication is in itself a very useful marketing tool, but as with anything, people will abuse it, automate it, “spin” it, and create piles of junk in the search results. This could be Google’s way of helping clean that up. Should you stop writing blog posts or syndicating content? No -if you play by the rules.  Don’t “spin” articles, write relevant material for users (not search engines), and don’t post spammy articles on your own website, then in the long run your efforts will be rewarded with good incoming links and traffic. Did some “good” content get de-indexed with the May update? Sure, but if it is really relevant, it will get picked up again as it’s popularity increases.

The point is, stay on course. Don’t get caught up in less-than-reputable SEO tactics. Keep writing good content, building links with relevant websites, and employing social media. The search engines want the most relevant content that gives the best end-user experience, and as long as that is the focus, you will outrank in the end.

Get more adsense clicks

May 31st, 2010 publisher No comments

These are proven techniques for making Google AdSense, which will work on most blogs and websites. There is no click=’ShowSpinOptions(11)’>secret system, you just have to think smart and put the time and effort into making things happen. Don’t start out on the Google AdSense path and think you are instantly going to be making 1000’s of dollars a week. It isn’t going to happen.
The most important step to making money from Google AdSense is to increase the volume of traffic to your blog or website. Simple ways of doing this is by distributing your articles to ezine lists, article announcement lists, blog carnivals, social bookmarks sites and yahoo groups. For this to work you need to write at least one new article a day, which needs to be of a good quality and interesting.

Create the ad units so that they blend in with your blog. You will need to go into your Google AdSense control panel and enter the hex colour codes from your website or blog. Make sure the text colour; background colour, and link colours all match your blog.

Don’t use borders around the ad unit boxes. Again, you want the boxes to blend, you will have to colour code the borders to match the background so that they become unseeable.

Find profitable niche markets, it is important not to choose markets where the cost per click is too low to make it worth your while. I suggest that you do some keyword research and find out roughly what the cost per click is in Ad Words. Usually this will be a good indication as to whether this will be successful.

Keywords are of great importance, you have to make sure that your content is not overstuffed with particular keywords to the point of destroying readability and value. What you need to do is master the art of making sure your articles make liberal use of on-topic keywords, which are likely to generate the most relevant ads. Experts maintain that using keywords with your titles and H1 tags is any excellent way to assist in getting the most relevant possible adds

Search Engine Optimization – Top 7 Traits of Legitimate SEO Companies

May 31st, 2010 publisher No comments

Did you know that nine out of ten people access online information through a search engine (SE)? And eight out ten do not go past the first page of the search results. If you want to benefit from your online presence then search engine optimization (SEO) is necessary for you. Well-placed, organic SE results can help your company to get noticed among the clutter of paid advertising and unrelated content. SEO stands out from other business strategies as it allows you to accurately measure performance and results.

Common Search Engine Optimization Strategies

SEO professionals use the following strategies to allow your company to make it to the first page of search results.

* They place links to your company on well-regarded Web sites.
* Improve the content on your website to ensure that it contains all the important keywords.
* They maintain compliance with search engine requirements and the best industry practices.

Seven Traits of Legitimate SEO companies

Before you hire SEO practitioners, you must learn to distinguish the professionals from illegitimate SEO practitioners who guarantee to place your company on the first page of results on major search engines. The illegitimate SEO professionals use various back door tricks to cheat SE rules. This often results in the client’s web pages being banned from the search indexes after a short while. Thus, it is crucial to understand the difference between legitimate and illegitimate SEO providers before hiring SEO companies. Seven traits differentiate real experts in SEO from the illegitimate SEO providers.

1. No Junk Email

Legitimate SEO providers always refrain from sending spam mail for advertising. If you receive spam mail from SEO providers promising top rankings at low prices, be sure to check their track record on search engines.

2. Reduce your dependence on Advertising

Effective SE optimization focuses on a smart Web strategy to highlight your company’s reputation. This leads to significant reductions of up to 80 percent in your advertising budget. Professional SEO companies will never ask you to purchase a lot of paid ads.

3. You can find Legitimate SEO Companies in the Search Engines

Professional SEO companies comply with SE algorithms. This allows you to see their long-term track record on search engines and assess their suitability for your website and business. On the other hand, illegitimate SEO services request customers to keep faith and provide short-term beneficial results. However, due to their lack of compliance with the rules, SE administrators remove all the traces of their clients from search indexes.

4. No secrets. You need Business Strategy and Tactics

Legitimate SEO companies will always share their strategies with you prior to implementation. Some companies promote their strategies online while others share them in the boardroom sessions. Conversely, illegitimate SEO providers keep their methods hidden from clients as they violate SE algorithms.

5. They have endorsements from trade associations

Customers of traditional retailers and service providers check endorsements from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or from trade associations before entering a store or an office. SEO practitioners are no different. Peer groups emphasize a shared code of ethics and a transparent approach to demystify the SEO practice. Some SEO companies are also enrolled with the BBB’s online programs that verify ethical behavior and customer satisfaction.

6. Targeted SEO Gets Local, Not Obscure

Professional SEO companies use area names to provide you with high rankings in localized search. This enables you to attract potential customers to your products and services, in your targeted locations. Be wary of SEO providers that promise you the “number one ranking on Google” within weeks. They do so by associating you website with an unusual search term that has a very limited audience.

7. The Best SEO Companies do not ask for links to their site

Legitimate SEO services will never ask you to insert suspicious links into their web pages. Illegitimate SEO companies may ask you to post links to yourself and other clients in conspicuous places on their websites. These links enable them to improve their websites’ ranking in search engines.

With increasing competition on the internet, it is becoming increasingly hard to get websites noticed. As a result, more and more businesses are turning to SEO companies for increasing the value of their websites. Some businesses have even received improvements of over 300 percent in their SE rankings. Now that you have all the knowledge required to select the right Search Engine Optimization company for your business, wait no more and reap the benefits of search engine optimization.
